5 Reasons to say Yes to Significance this year!

We come away each time with so many nuggets to keep the fire burning. Sharnell has kept me going. What was once a vision that God gave me is now a reality. (2).png

Today, I want to talk to you about discovering significance versus chasing success.

Early in my career, I knew what it meant to be a woman in many roles and proving yourself and fueled by the rush that comes with perfectionism.  I worked long hours, was traveling, and doing what I loved. Yet, somehow I constantly carried a guilt that I wasn’t doing enough and had so much more to give.

When away on another business trip and in-between meetings, I started feeling dizzy. At first I brushed it off, thinking anxiety had gotten the best of me. I decided to shut my computer down and start heading back to the hotel calling it a day. When I found a seat on the convention shuttle bus, that's when numbness rose-up in my arms and stiffness came across my chest with shortness of breath and I blanked out. It's when I came to, I immediately realized I needed to make a change.

I knew having a successful career was not meant to be my whole story.

We often feel like we need to choose between doing something we love and showing up fully in life; taking care of ourselves as well as the ones we love. Somehow we think that working harder and giving more produces results when really, the results we are producing require more work and more giving. At what point do we reassess our own definition of success?

What really matters is not what you achieve when chasing success. Rather, it’s how you use your platform for great impact; personally, in your business, and in the lives of others. This is what’s most significant.

“Do not live someone else's life and someone else's idea of what womanhood is.” - Viola Davis

For many, 2020 marked a year of change. A career pivot, a large dip in revenue stream, or maybe rebuilding a ministry from the ground up. All of which may have you reassessing what the future looks like. I’d encourage you to take this moment to think with the end in mind. Define what you want your legacy to be.

Here are 5 reasons to say ‘Yes’ this year to Significance!

  1. You appreciate where you are right now; having more control in your life and career are essential to how you want to move forward as the woman God has called you to be. This does not come without great intention. Strategy in your business, strategy in your life, and great intention are necessary to make this happen for the long-term.

  2. You’re full of ambition and have so many ideas. Your creative mind is always on the move with innovative thoughts. Moving from your head to reality requires you to push through fear and the up-rise of self-doubt.

  3. You want to make an impact in this world. You know that you’ve got so much to give. Your company/ministry is your platform to do just that, it’s where you build a legacy and have a real impact in the lives of others.

  4. If 2020 taught you anything, you learned the value of time. Our time here is limited. How you spend it in your business and life are important. You have to know the value that you bring to the table and how to leverage to reach those you want to reach in an efficient way. There's also so much life-giving value in your time spent with loved ones and doing the things that really matter most.

  5. What you choose to do now will change the trajectory of what’s ahead. Success is good, but significance and having greater impact is even better.

Make this year when you say Yes to growing your business, Yes to cultivating the key relationships that will strengthen you for what’s ahead, and Yes to prioritizing your personal growth. This is significant!

Cheering you on!
