Episode 3

Knowing Who You Are with Kristin Harper

I rewrote the first paragraph multiple times, I just could not seem to get it right.  I sat down to write an updated biography, a one page statement about who I was and I found myself perplexed. So much has changed, shifted and just simply evolved in me over the past few years.

Can you relate? Each season that you walk through brings about change to your environment, but more profound is the change that happens within you. The person you are today may be very different from the person who stood before the mirror a few years ago. Do you know who you are now?

In today’s episode I speak with Kristin Harper Speaker, Author, and the Founder and CEO of Driven to Succeed, LLC. about emotional intelligence. We dig into an understanding of how knowing who you are influences your power to lead and influence. It influences everything. Kristin shares her journey and practical principles in self awareness and self management in the context of growing into a better leader. Through her work, Kristin Harper provides market research, brand strategy consulting, keynotes and training on leadership and emotional intelligence for Fortune 500 companies and leading brands.

Award-winning business woman and author of The Heart of a Leader: 52 Emotional Intelligence Insights to Advance Your Career, Kristin shares insights from her book and practical steps to moving forward with a healthy understanding of who you are.

Our insight-filled discussion outlines the journey that goes into building your own self-awareness and self-management and how this leads to more fruitful and value-adding interactions socially with others. The courage it takes to lean into your values and understand how you’ve evolved through the years comes through in this candid conversation.

I know you’re going to be stretched and challenged to grow from our talk. Enjoy!

Topics We Covered:

[1:28]: Take a look at who you are today. Knowing that your identity has nothing to do with your status, accomplishments, and what you’ve been through. Rather, it has everything with who God says that you are. How will the way you see yourself influence how you lead and show up?

[5:35]: Kristin Harper shares her journey from a child exposed at an early age to entrepreneurship and hard work to college and to senior leadership at global organizations. She speaks about perseverance and taking leaps of faith to walk on purpose.

[9:25]: Kristin guides us through a few internal questions to ask ourselves during seasons of transition. What is the audience I want to serve? What are my unique skills and gifts? What do I enjoy doing and could lose track of time?

[13:10]: Together, Sharnell and Kristin speak to the power of knowing who you are and having emotional intelligence; the power of self awareness and managing yourself while being aware socially and managing relationships with others.

[20:80]: Self awareness is critical along with understanding the value of shifting and maneuvering who you to add value in the different environments you are in.  They speak to why it is necessary to know your values and triggers.

[34:00]: Kristin gives you practical ways to go through the process of understanding your why and walking in who you’ve created to be.

[40:00]: Leadership is a constant journey of knowing yourself. This includes slowing down, reflecting, and honoring your unique makeup and being.

About your host, Sharnell

Hi there, I’m Sharnell.

This podcast community is a passion of mine! From a growing corporate career to Founder and Coach to many, I understand what it means to be a faith-driven woman who wears many hats and wants more from life and career.

I studied and graduated from the University of Illinois Gies College of Business and hold an MBA from Eastern University in Pennsylvania. My career for many years was spent preparing and launching brands into the marketplace, as a Brand and Innovation leader in the corporate sector.

Now, as a Speaker and Coach I have the honor of helping ambitious, faith-driven women to set vision, equip, and to build the confidence to launch into their purpose in life and lead with clarity and significance.

Being a mommy myself and wife, my heart is driven to see women thrive and to not just do it well, but to also BE WELL doing it.
